Board approves flag policy, historic study amid preservation concerns

Board of Selectmen · Meeting of July 23, 2026

CT GREENWICH — Greenwich selectmen approve flag policy amendments, historic property study amid preservation concerns. The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved amendments to the town's flag-raising process, which codifies procedures without precluding requests but ensures community support. Assistant Town Attorney Laura McGeachy developed the amendment after public feedback; it addresses American Legion Post 29's role in military flag raisings.

The Board also unanimously appointed the Historic District Commission to investigate historic designation of 299 Riverside Avenue, while First Selectman Fred Camillo reported escalated efforts seeking state intervention to preserve 2 Greenwich Avenue from demolition. The Board approved temporary road closures for the St. Roch's Feast and a tower crane construction variance.
