Agency approves residential work at Lia Fail Way with tree restoration

Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Agency · Meeting of July 27, 2026

CT GREENWICH — Greenwich Inland Wetlands approves Lia Fail Way project despite tree-removal violation. The agency unanimously approved Max Wernert's application to construct residential additions, garage, pool, and modified driveways at 9 Lia Fail Way after he agreed to restore wetland areas damaged by unauthorized tree removal. Landscape architect Matt Popp presented a plan to plant 11 new native trees, including eight within the wetland.

Agency staff concluded there was no intentional wrongdoing, finding that the environmental benefits of restoring a lawn-covered wetland to native vegetation outweighed the impacts of the approved improvements. The agency also unanimously approved a sewer repair project at 1 Roberta Lane and issued an Order to Correct for an unauthorized deer fence at Cherry Valley Road and Highland Farm Road.
