Conservation Commission reviews state wildlife priorities
Conservation Commission · Meeting of February 5, 2026
CT GREENWICH — Greenwich Conservation Commission weighs state wildlife plan as harbor management concerns mount. Chairman William Rutherford's commission heard from Brian Hess of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection on the state's 2025 Wildlife Action Plan, which identifies 573 species of greatest conservation need and provides tools like Conservation Opportunity Areas and an online tracker for municipal conservation coordination. In liaison reports, member Sue Baker signaled an urgent problem: the state has deemed Greenwich's Harbor Management Plan inadequate, and concerns arose that dock approvals could establish unfavorable precedents while zoning gaps could expose town parks to development pressure.
The commission approved prior minutes and adjourned unanimously at 8:46 PM.
