Harbor Commission Flags Widespread Mooring Compliance Failures

Harbor Management Commission · Meeting of June 17, 2026

A survey of Captain's Island and approximately 50 percent of Greenwich Cove uncovered deficiencies including unmarked winter mooring gear, missing stickers or zip ties, and identification failures creating navigational hazards. Commissioners noted vendors have continued installing top gear on unpaid moorings despite explicit instructions, prompting the Commission to conclude that the mooring program requires comprehensive review due to insufficient accountability among vendors and permit holders.
