Board of Health reviews respiratory illness trends, GEMS operations stable

CT GREENWICH — Board of Health warns of emerging disease threats despite low current respiratory illness rates. GEMS emergency medical services recorded 5,190 calls year-to-date with operating revenue of $6.8 million running 2 percent ahead of budget through January 31, according to Finance Director Tom Miserendino. Baisley flagged rising public health concerns including measles, pertussis, Mycoplasma pneumonia, and human metapneumovirus, warning the United States is at risk of losing measles elimination status. Board member Christen Cooper presented the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for America, emphasizing whole foods and the microbiome's connection to immunity and mental health.
