Board hears unprecedented power outage and elevated Lyme disease reports

CT GREENWICH — Board of Health receives reports of unprecedented power outage and active tick season. On June 29, Emergency Management Director Joseph Laucella reported an unprecedented June 6 power outage knocked out electricity to 99 percent of Greenwich, with power restored to most residents within 2 to 3 hours and to all within 4 to 5 hours. Lab Director Mary Racho reported tick testing identified 76 Lyme disease cases and 32 anaplasia cases out of 249 specimens tested, both increases over the prior year.
GEMS reported a fiscal year 2026 operating loss of approximately 221,000 dollars, with revenue falling 1.5 percent short of budget and expenses running 2 percent over.
