Budget Committee approves $1.3M for snow and ice control
Board of Estimate & Taxation Budget Committee · Meeting of March 10, 2026
CT GREENWICH — Greenwich Budget Committee approves additional $1.3 million for winter operations. The Board of Estimate & Taxation Budget Committee voted unanimously to recommend approval of a $1,195,000 appropriation to the Department of Public Works and a $130,000 appropriation to Parking Services after Greenwich experienced 65 inches of snowfall this winter, more than twice the budgeted average. DPW Commissioner Jim Michel attributed the deficit to winter storms falling on holidays and weekends, requiring overtime at elevated rates and an extended January deep freeze necessitating overnight operations.
The Committee recommended both items as non-routine and requested confirmation that funding could source from both the General Fund and Parking Fund.
