Budget Committee reviews DPW operating budget, major capital projects
Board of Estimate & Taxation Budget Committee · Meeting of February 17, 2026
CT GREENWICH — Budget Committee hears DPW operating budget increase, $41.2M ice rink project. The panel, chaired by Laura Erickson and including Budget Director Agnes Cawai and DPW Commissioner Jim Michel, reviewed a proposed 2.3 percent operating increase for the six-division public works department covering 123 full-time positions. The committee heard that snow removal costs exceeded budget after approximately 50 inches of snowfall, well above the historical average, and that waste disposal margins have tightened as recycling volumes have declined.
The Hamill Rink replacement project, budgeted at $41.2 million and approved by the Board of Selectmen, is in conceptual phase with a financial operating plan expected before the committee's March 2 decision date.
