Greenwich HR Committee Reviews School and Town Staffing Gaps

Board of Estimate & Taxation Human Resources Committee · Meeting of January 14, 2026

CT GREENWICH — Greenwich Public Schools report chronic staffing shortages with 36 daily teacher absences. Dr. Jonathan Budd, Chief Human Resources Officer for Greenwich Public Schools, told the Board of Estimate and Taxation's Human Resources Committee that the district faces eight open teaching positions, 18 paraprofessional vacancies with high turnover, and difficulty filling special education positions.

The district has 90 employees on FMLA leave, representing a 15 percent increase due to Connecticut's expanded FMLA eligibility. The Town of Greenwich reported 50 to 65 vacant positions, with particular challenges filling sewer plant operator and heavy-duty mechanic roles.
